We’re getting back into the swing of things, and that means the odd post from here and there. Here’s what’s been going on in the world of Geekvites and what you can expect:
1. We’re in heavy R&D mode for invitations. Trust us, when we debut them, your mind will be like this:
Until then, it’s like waiting for a new season of your fav show. We’ll our best to floor you and make it worth the wait.
2. This is the only thing we can think of as one of the gems of CES. Clearly, we need a tiny hero, and that tiny hero is Simon Pegg:
3. If that wasn’t nonsense for you enough, one (and possibly more to come) of our office cats are on the world’s (second) cat social network, CatMoji. Technically, Cheezburger’s the first, but mySpace was first, too. Link in the picture. (and yes, the Bob Ross cat does have a fro, still.)
I’ll be loitering down in San Diego on Saturday & Sunday for the legendary geek prom, Comic-Con, and you should come find me.
FIRST, I’ll have print samples of our invites so you can manhandle them in person.
SECOND, I’ve got our own batch of coveted Comic-Con exclusives. I’ll be passing out a limited number of beautiful postcard-sized prints featuring my very own Doctor Who wedding fanart, “Allons-y.”
Please take these out of my sweaty little hands
THIRD, I’ll also have flyers with a special coupon code so you can save some of that cold hard cash you’ve been gold farming for in order to buy a real working portal gun.
Ood love coupons
LAST, I’ll give you the most amazingly satisfying HIGH5 you’ll get throughout the weekend. (Completely FREE. SPONSORED BY GEEKVITES.)
It'll be something like this.
Now, you must be thinking to yourself: “Hey Tammy, you’re about the size of an under-achieving Hobbit and there’ll be ALL the people. How can we possibly find you?”
Easy. Follow @Geekvites on Twitter as I live tweet my adventures around Gaslamp. Also, I’m sure if you stake out any Doctor Who related events (*cough* Official Doctor Who Tumblr Meetup at Basic *cough*) I’ll be there on personal space-time related business.
I’m also bound to end up at Nerd HQ on Saturday evening, so… no excuses.
Below is a handy visual guide: A presidential portrait of Yours Truly, The Loot, and the shark-covered loot bag I’ll be lugging everywhere.
Sharks are the Will Smiths of the ocean
So come find me so we can enjoy some drinks, talk geek wedding shop, or just plain hook you up with some free stuff. Feel free to send me meetup messages @Geekvites over the weekend. <3
Why hello there, fellow lovers of the last of the Time Lords! We’re wrapping up our little shindig celebrating the creations of Doctor Who fans around the world. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, it’s just too bad we can’t travel by police box.
…or can we?!
"Darling, this is the weirdest honeymoon ever."
It doesn’t really look bigger on the inside, but like Sheriff Rottingham says: “It’s not the size that matters, it’s how you USE IT!”
We apologize for crossing references. We do not apologize for crossing the streams, cause that’d be awesome.
While you may not own a full-fledged Tardis grown from sexy space coral, you can travel in style with this amazingly detailed Tardis tote (hey, alliteration!) It costs a pretty penny, but – just LOOK at it. It’s beautiful. We wish we had 10 of them.
And just what will you be painting your nails come your special day? Daleks? The Tardis? A bowtie?! You won’t have to choose with these fancy nails.
And who wouldn’t be blushing when presented with this amazing Tardis ring box? This one IS bigger on the inside, cause it holds true love! Aww. But since we’re talking about ring boxes…
You can wear the Tardis forever in this elegant, stately ring that we love. It’s subtle, but still an amazing design!
This ring is just… timeless (see what I did there?)
Bowties? Still cool. It may not be a diamond, but it sure will say, “You’re one heck of a companion.”
This watch is ME!
What couple isn’t complete without a Time Lord backup device? Gallifreyan finery abound in this magnificent little piece.
This really plays to the Tardis blue theme, and we can’t stop drooling over these magnificent setups.
"Why did it land us in this bottle?!"
For the days during your honeymoon when you want to curl up in a hot, steamy bath and happen to want to wash yourself with the a certain blue time machine, this magnificent soap will help you and your companion grow closer!
This is the perfect little topper to any wedding cake, and speaking of wedding cakes, we almost forgot…
Because there's nothing better than a Dalek sendoff.
We love the bold colors and stylized design of this wedding cake, and we’re sure it’s delicious!
Of course, we save the best for last, if you can believe this is a cake… we almost can’t.
BEHOLD! The most epic Tardis cake ever. The detail on this is amazingly jaw-droppingly real, and the best part?
We hope you like our picks and that it helps you traverse that wibbly wobbly terrain of matrimony. If you hear drumbeats, though, GET OUT!
Here at Geekvites, we get to see lots of crazy amazing things that fellow lovers of our favorite fandoms have created. While we’re confined to making awesome things on paper (for now!) we can’t help but long for the whirring BZZT of a sonic screwdriver or the timeless sound of the TARDIS as it’s off to it’s next destination.
So for those of you who are about to seal your “companionship” with a vow and a ring, we hope to help you in your epic quest to bend space and time in pursuit of your ultimate Doctor Who wedding!
First up on the list is wedding attire in that oh-so-perfect Tardis blue shade. We’ve done our best to track down the source of each item – just click on the picture to see the origin from the depths of Pinterest if you want to know more about it.
If you see something you love and can’t find it, contact Geekvites on Facebook and we’ll help! We’ll be bringing you more articles like this as the week goes on, so not only will you see the perfect attire for your special day, we’ll also give you great ideas for Doctor Who wedding accessories and Doctor Who wedding decor!
And remember, just like the TARDIS, no matter what kind of wedding you plan…
It's bigger on the inside. WITH LOVE!
Doctor Who Wedding Attire
A wedding by the sea, in an elegant dress. Who can’t swoon?
For the groom that’s slim and a little bit foxy – but, does he have converse sneakers on? NO ONE CAN KNOW!
This lovely gal sports an elegant veil with a dash of that lovely Police Box blue festooned in her hair. We love it!
For the ladies that don’t wanna wear Converse, these stylishly opulent heels definitely show where your allegiances lie.
Is it just us, or do these ruffly ruffles remind anyone of a Time Vortex? OH GOD, don’t stare into it for too long! I hear drumbeats! DRUMBEATS!
Nevermind, those weren’t drumbeats. They were just my pulse quickening when scoping out this amazingly adorable corset emblazoned with Gallifreyan finery, and of course, our favorite spaceship ever.
And since we’re dancing on the risque side of things, no honeymoon can be complete without a pair of Gallifreyan panties. We’ll refrain from making any sonic screwdriver jokes. Maybe. AHEM! Let’s class it up a bit…
Like fez, bowties are just cool. We can’t say anything else. We just can’t.
Who wouldn’t want a gaggle of bridesmaids dressed as the lovely TARDIS itself? You won’t have to worry about sizing, either, cause, y’know, it’s bigger on the inside. Or, for the more retro look:
We hope you dig what we’ve found so far, keep an eye out for our next review of even more Doctor Who awesomeness this week! And if you want the perfect Save the Date for your time-bendingly awesome wedding, don’t forget our Timey Wimey Save the Date cards!
And because we can’t resist the call of THE FEZ, we leave you with this parting gift:
Seeking a respite from the uncountable hours spent picking up gold slaying demons in Diablo 3, my fiance and I went on an epic multi-city photoshoot road trip with but two goals in mind:
Take glamourous on location photos in a purely geeky fashion of our newly arrived beautiful samples.
Do not die from dehydration in the unforgiving California sun.
(We mostly succeeded.)
One amazing benefit of living in the City of Angels is that we’re in such close proximity of amazing movie locations and beautiful architecture. With that in mind, we ventured through the valley taking shots of our designs in their “native” environments.
Please enjoy the fruits of our energy-drink fueled labor.
We’ve just finished up a fancy photo shoot (we ALMOST had real lightboxes and EVERYTHING!) with a bunch of our designs and we’re super stoked how they’ve turned out. Here’s a preview of what’s to come!
The porthole is a window to the ocean of YOUR HEART!
With the full release of this, we’ll also be giving you more information on paper styles, what they look/feel like and more! You’ll ALSO get to see some NEW paper we’ve been testing out – it’s premium quality, iridescent and we really think it’ll work marvelously for our designs.
So keep your eyes peeled this weekend. Or don’t. That sounds kinda painful.
We at Geekvites can appreciate the campy and the geeky. And we’re just all sorts of special, so we were more than pleased to hear that MIB3 still kept to the campiness which made the original so endearing back in 1997.
(I mean, come on, Tommy Lee Jones + Will Smith + Aliens = EVERYTHING WE’VE EVER LOVED.)
But you know what’s missing this time around? THIS:
Just bounce with me.
Give that a listen, just for kicks. We’ll wait.
Now just stop for a second. Isn’t that beautiful?
You know what we got instead? You know what ISN’T beautiful? Pitbull. Yes. Some random international music…guy who had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MOVIE sad face sad face upside down smile.
Not Will Smith.
We want to rectify this. We want our man Will Smith to deliver us from Pitbull. DELIVER US FROM PITBULL! What we’re asking from YOU is your support to fix this lack of Smithitude.
Let us present our case to get Will Smith to do a MIB3 rap ( which, by the way, would totally make up for The Legend of Bagger Vance):
1. Will Smith is a geek. A geek that makes this look good.
He even named his daughter Willow. (We know what that was really all about.)
2 . The Willenium is real and we’re living in it right now.
Let’s revisit the MIB video again – what did this do? It made the movie more appealing mainstream. Will Smith is a talented artist. He makes catchy music. He makes great scifi flicks.
Will Smith continues to bless the internet with weird things even today and he doesn’t even try; Woll Smoth, Tada, and more which are shamelessly ripped off and re-appropriated by unimaginative bloggers across the globe.
3. Will Smith is Always Available to Welcome You To Earth.
We ran out of ideas, so here’s a picture of Will Smith and the Earth. He welcomes you to it. We are shameless.
We're sorry. We told you we were 'special'.
So believe us when we say, we just wanna Get Jiggy With It again. We mean it. Here’s an animated gif to prove our internet sincerity:
This is how you save the Earth from aliens.
So, that’s why we’re introducing the Will Smith Equation. We put cats in it, because Will Smith is all about feeding cats in times of crisis. Seriously. Read these lyrics:
“Call up Ishkabibble’s!”
“And tell ‘em we need…”
“For like 300 cats!” True story, bro.
Anyway, the equation. THE EQUATION is as follows:
The Will Smith Equation is a proven formula. Like Meow Mix.
At best, we hope that this becomes the spark that lights a revolution leading to a full fledged romp of goodness for a DVD extra.
At worst, we hope to get enough attention that Will Smith actually sees our sincere plea and decides to, I don’t know, rap about an unrelated non-Sony property about aliens on his MacBook while eating a bowl of cereal one morning for a couple minutes. Maybe they could even throw a pug in it. That’d be neat. Still a win.
Any amount of rappin’ Will Smith is better than none which, we remind you, is our CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS.
After going down this little walk down memory lane of Will Smith history (Willsmistory?) if you’re just a little bit sad, then join us in our Clarion Call for Will Smith to Make #newMIBraps!
IF YOU WANT TO SEE WILL SMITH BOUNCE AND SLIDE WITH SOME ALIENS as much as we do:
Tweet #newMIBraps with your own pleas for the intergalactic SUPERSTAR.
We cannot thank you guys enough for all the love given to us over the past few days. We’ve really been pleasantly surprised by the reception of the idea and we couldn’t be more glad you guys enjoy our initial 10 designs so much. We’ll be catching up on orders over the holiday weekend as our printer (another bride-powered small superstar muchos grande’ excellente business like us) is currently closed for Memorial Day – please be aware of this if you put in an order over the holiday!
So here’s a sneak peek on what we’ve got in store for you this week:
Pages describing and showing in detail exactly what our paper looks/feels like with notes on any similar paper available in craft stores.
More designs! We’ve gotten questions about several different themes, and we’re already hastily scribbling away to make the other fandoms happy!
We’ll be doing some writeups on how to plan weddings around differing fandoms, with awesome tips and advice.
After weeks of sleepless nights spent searching through infinite lines of code and putting some rocket fuel into Photoshop to see if it made things go quicker, we’ve finally arrived at our launch. Geekvites now totters out into the world, innocent and wide-eyed, like a tender babe.
What’ll it turn into, after being exposed to the raw eyes of potential customers? No one knows!
We’re starting things small with 10 initial offerings, but we’re already working on more.
Keep up with us to see the best ideas in geeky wedding themes and all sorts of awesomeness. We built THIS, didn’t we? So you know whatever we’re all up ins is probably all that and a bag of chips!
In the meantime, don’t forget the social medias to keep up to date with what’s going on here!
